To operate the computing unit, it must be connected to a power supply via a device socket for non-heating appliances on 120 V and 230 V power systems. The voltage will automatically change based on the power system. It is important to ensure that the power cable complies with safety guidelines and that the rated voltage for the device matches the local mains voltage. The device should be connected to a grounded power supply system and should not be used with non-grounded or impedance-grounded power supply systems. The power plug must be easily accessible, and a central disconnector should be provided if the device is installed in a cabinet. It is also important to keep cables out of the way to prevent tripping and to disconnect power cables and data transmission lines during a thunderstorm. In case of emergencies, such as damage to the housing or penetration by liquids or foreign objects, the power plug should be removed, and the authorized service department should be contacted.
The computing unit can be connected to a printer via the parallel port by turning off both the computing unit and the printer, plugging the printer cable into the parallel port, connecting the printer cable to the printer, and tightening the connector on the port. A PS/2, USB, or serial mouse can also be used with the computing unit. To connect a PS/2 mouse can be plugged into the PS/2 mouse port. Alternatively, the computing unit can be connected to a programming unit or an S5 programmable controller in a point-to-point connection using a V.24 or TTY connection. The baud rate for these connections will depend on the length of the data line and the quality of the line.
The computing unit can also be connected to a SIMATIC S5 network using an MPI or PROFIBUS interface. For an MPI connection, a programming unit or programmable controller with an MPI interface is required, and the baud rate must be set to 9.6 kbps or 19.2 kbps. For a PROFIBUS connection, a PROFIBUS DP master is required, and the baud rate must be set to the same value as the PROFIBUS DP master. The computing unit can also be connected to a SIMATIC S7 network using an MPI or PROFINET IO interface. For an MPI connection, a programming unit or programmable controller with an MPI interface is required, and the baud rate must be set to the same value as the programming unit or programmable controller. For a PROFINET IO connection, a PROFINET IO device is required.
In addition to these connectivity options, the computing unit can also be connected to a local area network (LAN) using an Ethernet interface. A LAN connection allows the computing unit to communicate with other devices on the network and access resources such as printers and servers. The computing unit can also be connected to the Internet via a modem or router. It is important to ensure that the computing unit is properly configured and secured to prevent unauthorized access and protect against viruses and other threats.
